Breaking Coach News from LA

As many of you know, I have a tolerate/ignore relationship with the LA Kings. I never ever seriously considered even looking sideways at any team besides the Wings, much less the LA Kings…

The fact that I have access to this team is the primary reason I find myself compelled to follow the Kings. Secondary but equally weighted reasons include my love for the game itself and the fact that I like an underdog. Any hockey is better than no hockey right?

On that note: Out of Ottawa, as quoted below:

Murray heading to L.A.

“OTTAWA – The Los Angeles Kings are poised to hire Terry Murray as their new head coach.

Murray, who has served as assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers since the 2003-04 season, has previously served as head coach of the Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers.

Murray, who turns 58 on Sunday, is a native of Shawville and the younger brother of current Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray. A former star defenceman with the Ottawa 67’s, Terry Murray went on to play 302 NHL games with the California Golden Seals, Flyers, Detroit Red Wings and Capitals.

His last head coaching job was with Florida in 2000-01, when both he and then general manager Bryan Murray were fired by the organization.”

Well this looks positive. I don’t know much about Terry Murray, but if he was a Wing and used to coach my boy 22’s team, then it seems like the smartest thing LA did since selling Detroit Brad Stuart. Oh wait, that was Detroit’s brilliance…
